Chapter 4 – From Final to First

STEP 4

FROM FINAL TO FIRST

You have probably heard the quote, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Documenting your ultimate goal and working backward to break it down into smaller goals is the “final-to-first” approach. You must apply this approach until you reach your present circumstances. You can achieve this after you’ve done your research.

Let’s say, for example, that your goal is to own a clothing store. Since your long-term goal is to own your own business, your starting point on the final-to-first approach would be to consider the grand opening of your business. You would begin with the completed clothing store and work backwards. What size would the store be? Where would it be located? What type of clothes would I sell? How would I promote the store? These questions will continue until you identify the first step from where you are now. This exercise lets you begin to visualize yourself in your new life, and it helps you find and create the path to get there.

EXCITEMENT IN THE BLUEPRINT

If this process doesn’t excite you, there’s a good chance that you still haven’t found what it is that you would love to do. It can be quite challenging to work backward from the main goal to where you are now. It can be challenging because you’re setting up a blueprint for something that you haven’t yet done. It would be impossible to map out a plan perfectly, but that’s part of the excitement. You get a chance to see what works and what doesn’t work. In the process, you will meet great people who will assist you, and you will learn many things. It will feel like a great adventure. It will be a great adventure. The journey will be as fun as the destination.

Working backward can apply to working out, eating healthy food, or anything else that is goal oriented. Whatever you want to do in life, it can be incorporated into your plan. This makes the journey exciting and exhilarating.

CONCLUSION

To the best of your ability, you must look at your end goals and break them down in relation to where you are now. If you do not love this process, you probably have not yet found what it is that you would love to do. While breaking down your goals, you can incorporate anything into your plan that you want to be a part of your life. There is no right or wrong way to create your plan. This exercise forces you to think daily about your end goal. You will know exactly what you are working toward. You will act, feel, and operate with a higher sense of purpose. Once you operate with a higher sense of purpose on a daily basis, you will begin to feel as if you are discovering your inner greatness.
